Does you product meet EMC requierements?

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is the ability of electrical equipment to function as intended in its electromagnetic environment without causing unwanted interferences and operate while receiving external electromagnetic perturbations.

Electrical and electronic devices transmit and receive electromagnetic waves that may interfere with other electronic apparatus. The point is to eliminate or attenuate those perturbances to conform to the directives or regulations for the approval certificate. 

Regulations and Directives

Most countries have placed regulations to ensure that electronic products available on their markets provide adequate EMC performance. That is to say, not creating interferences that may affect other equipment and providing a certain level of immunity to external disturbances.
Electrical equipment manufacturers are responsible for complying with these regulations and ensuring that their products comply with EMC regulations. 
To assess EMC regulations, a good practice is to begin early in the design by following best engineering practices and testing throughout the development to identify potential EMI concerns.

If you are developing electronic products for automotive equipment or ITE systems, your apparatus must meet the requirements specified by a standardization body such as CISPR, CENELEC, FCC, or IEC. The strict application of EMC limits could delay product certification, resulting in additional costs.

Two types of perturbances

Two events for EMC compliance are verified: electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic susceptibility (EMS). 
The first relates to electromagnetic radiation emitted by an apparatus, whereas the EMS describes the attitude of a product subjected to external electromagnetic disturbances in the environment. 


Two electromagnetic propagation phenomena are analyzed separately:

  1. Radiated emissions through the air and

  2. Conducted emissions traveling by cables or wires.
