IEC 61196-5 Part 5: Sectional specification for CATV trunk and distribution cables Part 5: Sectional specification for CATV trunk and distribution cables

Cables are an essential feature of our connected world. Despite the introduction of wireless connectivity, cables continue to ensure that high volumes of data can be transmitted reliably and quickly.
Cables are a vital element in our connected world. Despite the introduction of wireless connectivity, the cables still ensure reliable and fast transmission of high volumes of data.
Coaxial cables are among the largest available in homes, offices, and industrial environments, used for television and audio signals transport and interactive services.
The IEC has recently published an updated edition to its standard IEC 61196-5, Coaxial Communication Cables – Part 5. This standard specifies the test procedures and requirements for trunk and distribution for analog and digital signal transmissions. The cables are utilized at temperatures between −40 °C and +65 °C and in the frequency range of 5 MHz to 2 000 MHz.
This standard provides the methodology for testing the cables to demonstrate their performance and reliability during their operational lifetime.
Compared with the previous 2012 version, the 2022 version counted the following changes:
A complete revision of materials and cable construction
Annex A added the cable identification and marking
Added a revised table to Annex B with cable types
