The RBD is a graphical representation of a system's configuration used in reliability analysis to examine the system for maximum dependability.

The diagram contains blocks of diverse subsystems illustrating the relationships between them.


Purpose

The purpose of the Reliability Block Diagram (RBD) analysis is to evaluate the reliability of a system by breaking it down into separate blocks or segments for the analysis process. The RBD is useful for systems employing redundancy parts like power supplies that enhance the system's reliability.

In an RBD analysis, each subsystem or component is shown as a block diagram, including parts or components connected by lines or arrows to illustrate how the MTBF flows. 

Each block displays the name of the subsystem and its previously estimated MTBF or failure rate to contribute to the overall system reliability. This prediction allows engineers to evaluate the system's reliability and identify critical points that impact its performance and safety.

The RBD calculation could also estimate the Reliability, Availability, and MTBCF (Mean Time Between Critical Failures).
